Flora Farms BBQ Sauce (copycat)

Delicious and simple to make. What a great sauce to have in your spring/summer BBQ sesh. Their Pork Chops with house-made BBQ sauce were the star of the show. It was only fair to recreate it.
Prep Time 5 minutes
Cook Time 45 minutes
Total Time 1 hour 30 minutes
Servings: 1 .5 litres
Course: stovetop
Cuisine: stovetop

Ingredients

  • 1 can San Marzano whole peeled tomatoes 28 ounces
  • 1 cup Apple Cider Vinegar
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 1 pouch of apple sauce 90 grams
  • 1 medium onion
  • 8 cloves of garlic
  • 1 stick of cinnamon
  • 2 star anise
  • Salt and Pepper 1 teaspoon each

Method

  1. Roughly chop the onion and garlic
  2. Add all the ingredients to a pot.
  3. Bring it to a boil then lower the temperature to a low simmer. Stir every 15 mins.
  4. After 45 minutes, check seasoning. Add more vinegar if you want your BBQ sauce to be tangier, add more salt if needed and add more sugar if it’s too tangy.
  5. Remove the cinnamon and star anise.
  6. Cool it for 30 minutes to an hour then put it in a blender and store.
