Crispy Rice Paper Dumplings

5 from 3 votes
These uniquely delicious and crispy rice paper dumplings are so much more than your traditional dumplings or ordinary spring rolls. My version is packed with chewy white rice, juicy tuna, creamy avocado, and umami-filled condiments and dipped in a special sesame oil sauce.

Total Time 20 minutes
Servings: 5 dumplings
Course: Pan fry
Cuisine: Pan fry

Ingredients

  • Rice papers 1 per dumpling
  • 1-2 tablespoon avocado oil
Filling
  • 1 can of tuna or salmon
  • 1 cup of cooked sushi rice add rice vinegar to make it into sushi rice
  • 1 half avocado sliced
  • 3 tablespoon of kewpie mayo sub: regular mayo
  • 1 tablespoon low sodium soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon of sriracha
  • Salt and pepper to season
Sauce
  • 2 tablespoon low-sodium soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon rice vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon chili oil
  • 1 teaspoon toasted sesame oil
  • 1 teaspoon sugar or honey
  • Sesame seeds

Method

  1. Filling: In a bowl, combine all the filling ingredients. Mix well, and season with salt and pepper. Taste to make sure it is to your liking and set it aside.
  2. Slice the avocado into thin pieces.
  3. Wet the rice papers for 5 seconds with warm water. Place it on a cutting board.
  4. Start your assembly. Rice, Tuna, Avocado. Fold and repeat. Make sure it is super tight.
  5. Pan Fry (optional): Add 1-2 tablespoon of neutral oil in a well-preheated pan and pan-fry the dumplings. Do not overcrowd. They will stick together otherwise.
  6. Pan fry for 4-5 minutes on each side using a spatula to slightly press down on the dumpling to get a crispy outer layer.
  7. Air fry: Preheat your air fryer to 350 degrees. Lightly spray the bottom of the tray or basket with oil. Place the dumplings. Space them out, so they don’t stick. Spray the top with oil.
  8. Air fry at 350 degrees for 15-18 minutes. Flip them a few times to get a nice color.
  9. Make your dumpling sauce!
