Black Sesame Rice Krispie Treats

5 from 6 votes
My Black Sesame Rice Krispie Treats are super easy to make, and they're all the rage with the kiddos! Seriously, it's like a total throwback to my childhood. These treats are packed with two things I've always loved black sesame seeds and classic rice krispies.
Prep Time 5 minutes

Total Time 15 minutes
Course: stovetop
Cuisine: stovetop

Ingredients

  • 5 tablespoons salted butter
  • ¼ cup black sesame seeds + 1 tablespoon * see tips
  • 1 tablespoon toasted sesame oil
  • 1 12-ounce bag marshmallows
  • 6 cups Rice Krispies cereal

Method

  1. In a pan, toast the sesame seeds for 2-3 minutes. (see tip)
  2. Set aside 1 tablespoon of the black sesame seeds.
  3. In a small blender, add ¼ cup of the toasted sesame seeds and toasted sesame oil in the blender and blend until it forms a paste.
  4. In a large pot, melt the butter over medium low heat and cook the butter until it starts to brown, 2 to 3 minutes. Reduce the heat to low and add the sesame seed paste.
  5. Add the marshmallows and stir until melted around 5 minutes.
  6. Add the cereal and quickly stir until evenly coated. Use an oiled wooden spatula.
  7. Immediately press the rice krispies into the parchment paper or greased-lined pan.
  8. Let cool for  30 minutes before cutting and slicing it into squares.

Notes

  • *The black sesame seeds taste bitter if they’re expired, check the black sesame seeds before using.
  • The rice krispies treats can be stored in an airtight container for up to 4 days at room temperature.
  • Apply a thin layer of oil to your spatula to avoid sticking.
